Hot Pepper (capsaicin):
You can increase your calorie burning rate to 10% above normal for 30 minutes by consuming a substance found in red peppers called capsaicin.
And while your metabolism is increased by 10% above normal for just a short period of time (29 minutes) you’ll lose 130 calories – imagine including capsaicin every single day and you can lose those calories consistently.
By the way those of you who think that 130 calories isn’t much think again because that is how we lose weight – by consistently, every day, losing calories.
A study was done at University in Japan when a group of younger women were given an approximate 480 Calorie meal containing a yellow curry sauce with 3 mg of capsaicin. They lost more weight than if the that compound were not ingested
By the way Capsaicin is the compound found in red peppers that gives you that hot painful nasty sensation – you know when beeds of sweat form on your forehead. Of course if you ingest capsaicin you will be doing it in quantities that don’t cause that sensation.
Anyway this compound causes fat burning through a process called thermogenesis which means releasing calories from your body in the form of heat that can no longer be stored as fat.
There are other benefits to your weight loss efforts associated with you ingesting capsaicin – It also causes you to feel like you are full sooner after eating so you naturally consume less food.
It also helps you burn more fat as you exercise. Studies have shown that taking it an hour before exercising increases your metabolism while exercising. Exercise already has the effect of increasing your metabolism so imagine how effective it would be to add capsaicin to your exercise routine to increase your ability to burn more calories.
Hope this information helps you in your quest to slim down and be more trim and healthy.
